Frances-chanmugamI am the secretary of the Trust. I was born in Glasgow, Scotland. I graduated as a teacher from Notre Dame Teacher Training College in Glasgow and spent some years teaching in Scotland before moving to teach in London, where I met and married Tony. After teaching for another 25 years, I became ill and eventually retired from teaching. I then decided to try my hand at writing children’s books and created a little character. I have now written five adventures for him and hope to soon find a publisher.

I first visited Sri Lanka at the height of the troubles in 1983/84 and was very saddened to see such a beautiful country being torn apart by this dreadful civil war. I was also struck by the contrast of the beauty of the island and the poverty experienced by some of its people. I am now looking forward to using my knowledge of children and skills as a teacher to help in any way I can, through the FARS Chanmugam Trust, to improve the lives of the children we now have in our care.
